What You Will Learn

Aerial Storytelling

We get straight into the nitty-gritty — reading the weather, finding locations, forming a shot list, and knowing what to look for in the field: textures, contrast, and using foreground vs top-down angles. We cover key cinematic movements for video, plus the best settings for stills vs motion so you actually walk away with usable work.

Camera & Colour

Dial in your gear properly — clean Pro-Log setups, simple grading to keep things natural, reducing glare and haze, and matching your footage in the grading process to get a cohesive result.

Pre-Flight Workflow (Real World)

A simple, repeatable system for flying near water: checking airspace, reading weather, and planning for over-water flights so you don’t end up fishing your drone out of the ocean.

Risk Management

How to handle beaches with people, flying around surf zones and crowded lineups, fishing areas, and understanding bird behaviour. Plus what to do when things go wrong: controlled ditching and recovery.

Compliance — Made Simple

No jargon. Just the basics you need to stay legal in Australia:

  • When operator accreditation is enough

  • When you need RePL/ReOC

  • Sub-2kg rules, registration, and age requirements

  • WA specifics: DBCA restrictions and distance rules around parks and marine areas

Business Basics

Straightforward guidance on rate cards, licensing, usage, and what brands actually care about when hiring drone shooters.

Ethics & Wildlife

How to fly around whales, dolphins, and seabirds without disturbing them — minimum distances, behaviour cues, and why ethical flying helps you in the long run.
